CON is shorthand for "Consistency" - an attribute of all players in EHM.
It can be thought of as representing what percentage of the time a player is playing to his full abilities.
It's arguable how important it is for non-goalies, but it is generally accepted as the most important attribute of all for goalies. Regardless, a low CON is bad for anyone - even non-goalies.
CON Boosts
Sometimes, a shrewd GM can trade for a player with decent and even excellent skills but low consistency and turn him into a solid player. This can be achieved via the famous "CON Boost". Players whose Consistency is less than 50 have a chance of seeing that Consistency level increase when they are traded. Think about it this way:
Suppose another team drafted a player whose Potential and Ceilings make him seem like a potential All-Star but his CON is 20. That CON pretty much renders him a good player once in a great while but he'll generally have nothing to contribute to the team in between. Now you, the shrewd GM, offer a trade to get that guy and you give up some farm player. Imagine if, as a result of the trade, his CON goes up to something more respectable. You just got yourself a decent player for a cheap price. Something to think about, right?
CON Changes as a result of a trade
Consistency can often change when a player is traded. Often we see a player's CON go down and the league has placed a maximum on that drop in order to prevent catastrophes. However, as noted above, CON can also increase or not change at all. Here is a basic chart that outlines how CON COULD change after a trade:
50 or less = possible increase
50 - 75 = possible decrease
76 or more = no change
