Hi all.
We had a situation arise on this ufa where someone lost a player to UFA and the circumstances were such that it could be considered a little unfair and i'd like to se if we can come up with a simple way to stop it in the future. I'm not looking to reverse whats happened.
Team A wants to sign a player on his team who is over 30 and therefore can't go RFA.
At the rolloever the player is still considering a contract offer from Team A but goes UFA and Team B puts in a higher bid which the player accepts.
The issue is this. Team A would have increased their offer had they known another offer was submitted. In real life obviously there would be conversations between teams players and agents and alternate offers could be submitted. We don't have that option in game.
There are two options that I can see, but perhaps people can suggest others. It needs to be simple though.
Option 1.
We post basic UFA offers on the forums a day before they are input so people can see whats going on. Example,
Billy Bob recieves the following offer: $1,000,000 py, $1,500,000 py and $1,500,00 py.
This would tell people that 3 teams have put in offers, but doesnt say for how long or what the bonus is. Teams can then up their bid if they want.
The problems I have with this however are:
1. It will increase the length of the off season.
2. You could only do it once for each round and therefore you wouldnt get a chance to match or better an offer after the first attempt and the same thing could happen and you lose the player
3. It prevents GM's getting in a steal and spotting a player no one else has.
Option 2.
Sign your players before they go UFA. Don't want to sound harsh, it isnt ment to be and isnt aimed at the person who lost their player. They did nothing wrong. It's just the easiest way I can think of preventing the issue from happening again.
There is a provision within the rules to go over the cap between the start of the play-offs and the start of the regular season in order to re-sign players who may want in increase in salary. I know of at least 2 managers who resign their players on 1 year contracts at the start of the season.
