The 2016/17 Global Hockey League season ended in controversy today as a team failed to qualify for the playoffs despite having a higher number of points after winning a penalty shootout. A league enquiry will now be underway. This event threatens to overshadow the victory of the Carolina Hurricanes who were crowned League Champions after both the LA Kings and the Chicago Blackhawks lost one of their remaining two games.
As it stands the league recognises that Ottawa on 94 points have the 8th spot in the East but Boston on 95 points have finished in 9th spot.
