Welcome, everyone, to the 2015 GHL Awards show.
First off, a big thanks to Geddy Lee and Miley Cyrus for kicking things off with that beautiful medley of 90s hip-hop classics. I know I'll never forget that. Some things can't been unseen.
Let's get on with the show. Here to introduce our first award...GHL Commissioner Stephen Hicks. Stephen...
...
...
Well, it seems Mr. Hicks is having some technical difficulties and is unable to join us. In that case, I'll announce our first award.
Our first award is for the GM of the Year. Our finalists are...
Damien King of the St Louis Blues
Josh Lewis of the Los Angeles Kings
and Pete Panagos of the Philadelphia Flyers
And the GM of the year is...
Damien King of the St Louis Blues! Congratulations Damien on a fantastic season that just might culminate in a skate around the ice with the Cup held high over your players' heads.
On to the next award. Please welcome...Teller of Penn & Teller!
...
...
Hmm...this doesn't seem to be working. How about if I just handle all the announcing of awards and whatnot?
The next award is the Robert Alarie Trophy. This goes to the league's Top Defensive Forward and is named for one of the best defensive forwards in the history of the original GHL. The finalists are...
Cal Clutterbuck of the New York Islanders
Milan Lucic of the Boston Bruins
and Brandon Sutter of the Carolina Hurricanes
And the Robert Alarie Trophy winner is...
A tie! Cal Clutterbuck and Brandon Sutter! Both received the same number of votes and the same number of 1st place votes and so there is nothing to separate them. Congratulations to both players on some well-deserved recognition.
Out next award is the Vit Rejda Trophy for the league's top rookie. Rejda had one of the greatest - if not the greatest - rookie seasons in the original GHL and continued on with a fantastic career. The finalists are...
Filip Forsberg of the Nashville Predators
Johnny Gaudreau of the Calgary Flames
and Allen York of the Tampa Bay Lightning
And the Vit Rejda Trophy winner is...
Filip Forsberg of the Nashville Predators! Forsberg was the runaway winner in this race. Congratulations, Filip.
With just 3 awards to go, perhaps we can check in with GHL Commissioner Stephen Hicks again...no? No phone or internet? Sheesh! All right. I guess it's a one man show here.
Next up is the Patrick Chelios Trophy awarded to the league's best defenseman. Chelios was one of the best defensemen in the original GHL and was largely considered the first great defenseman to be drafted into the league. The finalists are:
Victor Hedman of the Tampa Bay Lightning
Erik Karlsson of the Ottawa Senators
and P.K. Subban of the Montreal Canadiens
And the Patrick Chelios Trophy winner is...
P.K. Subban of the Montreal Canadiens! P.K. had an incredible season and ran away with this one. Great job, P.K.
OK. I think we finally have Stephen Hicks ready to...no? Seriously? OK...so here we go. Let's finish this thing up.
The Paul Bolduc Trophy is awarded to the league's top goaltender and is named for a guy that won the equivalent award more times than anyone else in the history of the original GHL. The finalists are...
Marc-Andre Fleury of the Pittsburgh Penguins
Jonathan Quick of the Los Angeles Kings
and, the only player to be a finalist for multiple awards, Allen York of the Tampa Bay Lightning
And the Paul Bolduc Trophy winner is...
Jonathan Quick of the Los Angeles Kings! It's only fitting that the Kings have someone winning an award given the amazing regular season they had. And Quick was tremendous for them. A well deserved award in what was a closely contested race with Fleury.
OK. This is it. The last one and the biggest one (no - not Stewart Pecker). The Alfred Cederberg Trophy for the league's Most Valuable Player. This is named for one of the greatest players ever in the original GHL and a guy who won the MVP a few times in that league. The finalists are...
Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals
Max Pacioretty of the Montreal Canadiens
and Jakub Voracek of the PHiladelphia Flyers
And the winner of the Alfred Cederberg Trophy - the league's Most Valuable Player is...
Jakub Voracek of the Philadelphia Flyers! Voracek ran away with this one as the league's leading scorer and leading his team to an excellent season.
Congratulations to Jakub Voracek and to all of the GHL award winners for the 204-2015 season. We'll see you next year. Please stay tuned for the episode of Good Times that normally airs at the time we had our awards show.
