After looking like they were going to be a force after a mid-season 16 game unbeaten streak, the Islanders had a disappointing end to the 2014/15 GHL season with a 5 game first round lost to the Canadiens. The following is a player-by-player ranking of the Islanders players from the previous season.
Goalies
Jaroslav Halak A
Halak was expected to be the backup for most of the season to Rookie Kevin Poulin. Halak's performance throughout the season and his 30 wins in 53 games was amongst the top in the GHL.
Key Stat: 89.4 Save Percentage, 6th amongst GHL starters
Kevin Poulin C
Poulin was never able to hit his stride this past season. The team never seemed comfortable in front of him, and the rookie jitters seem to get to him on a regular basis
Key Stat: 16 losses in 29 games
Defensemen
Johnny Boychuck A+
Boychuck was unsure of his situation with the Islanders after the acquisition of Andrew Ferrance in the off season, and the arrival of Christopher Tanev 20 games in. Boychuck thrived under the pressure. He was 5th in team scoring with a +15. He is expected to be pared with future superstar defenseman Griffin Reinhart to start next season
Key Stat: 4th in GHL scoring for Defensemen
Nick Leddy B-
Leddy won the offensive defenseman spot from Visnovsky in the pre-season, and allowed the team to flip Slava Voyonov to the Canucks for Tanev. Then things started to go downhill.
his -16 was second worst on the team.
Key Stat: was 2nd in PP Points for GHL Defensemen with 18
Christopher Tanev B
Tanev was aquired for Slava Voyonov 20 games into the season and didn't disappoint. A dependable defensemen who should end up being a monster hitter, Tanev occupied the 3-4 role for most of the season
Key Stat: 2nd in +/- for Islanders Dmen with +12
Travis Hamonic B-
Hamonic was supposed to have his breakout year, and halfway though the season it appeared like he would. But like most of the team, the 2nd half was less than stellar. More is expected of him next season or he could find himself on the trading block
Key Stat: 6th in GHL defensemen in hitting with 232
Andrew Ferrance B
Ferrance was exactly what the team expected. A quiet player who showed up game in/game out and contributed. Indications are that next season may be the last for Ferrance
Key Stat: Nothing. exactly what you would expect from a quite 5/6 guy
Matt Carkner B
Carkner was the team's enforcer, and did a reasonable job of that. Stuck in the 6th D-spot, Carkner was called upon to defend when required and contribute in small ways.
Key Stat: 3rd in GHL Defensemen for fights with 16 (don't ask how many he won)
