Good day everyone
I tried to make a brief subjective overview of this season's draft class
Not very well english vocabulary may limit some of my descritions, so sorry for that
Will be glad to see comments or feedback, have fun reading
1. Matt Willis, LW
Assets: Listed as an all-around player, but has even better defensive skills. Potential superb checking, positioning, speed and faceoff abilities will make him a top penalty killer and two-way forward. Good SH, PL and superb ST
Flaws: a bit concerned about his consistency, very slight probability of risk of rushing him as a pro
Career potential: Star 1st liner, 86 OF, 91 DF, 85 OA
Similar players: Hard to find similar high-end players. Someone like Slavomir Drulkak form CAR, but not such a heavy hitter
2. Daniel Rylander, LW
Assets: It was hard to choose between him and D-man Wahlroos, but high-end speed and almost maximum all three defensive abilities made my choice. Typical top notch two-way forward who has all necessary abilities for that job. Waiting for crushing hits from this guy
Flaws: seems to be inconsistent, though with such abilities it is not a problem. Will take more time to get to pros because of it
Career potential: Top 6 forward for sure, high-end penalty killer, 66 OF, 95 DF, 80 OA
Similar players: better version of Sergei Basilevsky from CAR
3. Goran Wahlroos, D
Assets: Solid defensive defenseman, very durable and quick. Superb CH, PO and excellent hitting. Just what you need on PK and against opponent’s top line forwards.
Flaws: Offensive inability, though that is not his job
Career potential: Top 2 defenseman, PK specialist, 54OF, 93DF, 81OA
Similar players: a slightly better version of Nikolas Koberstein from MTL
4. Josef Clifford, C
Assets: Another tough choice, now between Clifford and Bulatov. But as a rating is subjective, Clifford won the spot due to his better defensive skills. Pure shooter with ideal SH, who can defend with superb checking. Pretty durable and good at face-offs.
Flaws: Average speed especially for a top prospect
Career potential: Top 6 forward, PK specialist, 80 OF, 78 DF, 78 OA
Similar players: almost a copy of Emerson Etem
from ANA
5. Alexei Bulatov, RW
Assets: Very offensively gifted typical playmaker with excellent PL and ST abilities, very durable with good wheels. Can shoot and score as well
Flaws: Not the best face-off winner, so will doubtfully play at center, what may limit his playmaking abilities.
Career potential: Top 6 forward, PP specialist, 92 OF, 63 DF, 77 OA
Similar players: something like Erik Stenecker with better ST but way worse SH
6. Markus Palander, D
Assets: High-end gifted offensive defenseman with a rocket shot, razor passing abilities, and amazing speed. Something like you could see from Scott Niedermayer in the past. If trained properly can also grow his ST abilities
Flaws: Very inconsistent, that may cause clashes in the locker room when he is young. Defensively seems to be pretty average, something like you could rarely see from Scott Niedermayer in the past.
Career potential: Top 6 defenseman, PP specialist, 89 OF, 70 DF, 77 OA
Similar players: something like Justin Lemcke from CBS
7. Ambroz Chromie, RW
Assets: His overall offensive talent is concentrated in his ST abilities. Good skater and good at face-offs, rarely caught out of position.
Flaws: Average SH and PL without big potential to grow and pretty average defensively.
Career potential: Top 9 forward, 80 OF, 71 DF, 78 OA
Similar players: seems to be a slightly worse copy of Tomas Hertl from EDM
8. Frederic Pelletier, G
Assets: I don’t know how are goalies valued in this league, that is why Frederic is only number 8 on this list. But it seems there are not so many goalies of that class in the league. More than excellent in almost every attribute and very consistent
Flaws: Sometimes may take bad penalties and not very high which may lead to slower agility development.
Career potential: Star goalie, 88 OF, 82 DF, 80 OA
Similar players: Way less greedier version of Radomir Prochazka from TOR
9. Ted Puppa, LW
Assets: Another player listed as all-around offensive forward but with excellent defensive attributes. Almost perfect CH and PO make him a solid penalty killer. Has very good speed, durability and face-off attributes.
Flaws: Soft when speaking about hitting. And pretty average offensively when talking about a top 10 prospects
Career potential: top 9 forward, PK specialist, 74 OF, 81 DF, 76 OA
Similar players: Copy of Darryl Gruden from EDM
10. Stefan Sundstrom, C
Assets: Typical two-way forward, not outstanding but well-rounded defensively. Good speed and endurance with some playmaking abilities.
Flaws: Not very talented offensively and not so good at face-offs for a center
Career potential: bottom 6 forward, PK specialist, 64 OF, 81 DF, 76 OA
Similar players: Something like Marcus Kruger from CHI
to be continued up to 11-30 picks
